Ventrilo Usage

Mito Blue suggested we make a topic like this, and I decided it couldn't hurt to at least try.  So post your available times for Ventrilo here, and we'll see if we can't get it more active. :>

My times:

Monday-Saturday: 7 pm - 12 am
Sunday:  4 pm - 12 AM

Anytime I'm awake and not at work I'd be able to hop on, which would be roughly between the hours of 2pm-6am everyday. I don't have a set work schedule but when I do work it takes up about half of my time awake, and I'm going back and forth now, so either earlier or later. Also eastern time.

I can do Ventrilo usually Mon-Fri from 11pm-2am and Sat-Sun from 10pm-2am, EST

I know I'm probably going to get some flack for this...but I'd like to politely protest the use of ventrilo.  For the two or three people who don't/can't use it I feel kind of gypped when I'm in the chat.  Ten people are in, and every now and then someone comments on some one else in ventrilo or to encourage more people to enter.  I don't really feel like going into the chat in the hopes that those on or two other people will be in the chat at the same time as me.

Why do you need ventrilo?  You have a chat why don't we all use it together because we know that *every*one can use it.  Ventrilo seems like an area of the chat for premium members.

So I ask that we drop this need for ventrilo (and before you say that I can type while listening to you talk...a person typing cannot possibly keep up with someone speaking...unless I resort to abbreviating my comments down to one letter per word).

Simply put, if you don't like something, don't use it. Having Vent is nothing more than just having another option to talk to people. It's not a need. It's fun. Why do you want the other choice to be taken away from people who want to use it? With Vent being here, we can use one, the other, or both if we so choose. Not everyone wants to type all the time either. Should we take the entire chat away because someone doesn't want to use the chat? I'm not bashing/flaming, but trying to show you your thinking, and how it could be taken to other features of this site.

Anyway, I would say I go on Vent randomly because I get distracted easily (and have no job at the moment), but I could schedule it to about after 6PM to 10-11PM EST.

Cheeky, I have to agree with Mito.  While I understand your reasoning for disliking Ventrilo, it's really not fair or realistic to say we ought to just nix it because of two or three people on the site.  If we can't get the server to be active again, that's one thing, but it's kind of outlandish to nix it for that reason.

Ultimately, it's a choice that you make (sorry if that sounds harsh) not to use Ventrilo.  I don't think that means that those who do use and enjoy it should be shafted because of a personal decision.

It does kind of seem like saying we should shut down the internet because some people don't have internet access. Besides, how can you get gypped on a free site? It's not like it cost you anything to be here.

Ventrilo is nice when I use it, but I only really used it for when we were having roleplaying sessions. We haven't done that in a while.

I am going to be available, up until the 18th on January, on:
M, W, F- after 7pm
Tu/Th- Most of the day unless needed for other commitments

After January 18th:

True, it is free and I do appreciate what I get but do you want to drive those few people away because everyone is in Ventrilo again?  There's no reason for the people who don't use it to be here, unless more non-users have gathered since the last outbreak of Ventrilo users.

Ja, I "guess" I have a choice because I don't have a mic any more and because I have no money to get a new one.  I'm hoping it won't be like that but it was last time and it fucking sucked stinky balls (and those are not my kind of balls).

I am stating my reasons for not wanting Ventrilo and I'm sorry if you don't mean to but you're all sounding really defensive.  Chill out.

Cheeky, honey, the one sounding defensive here is you.  In whatever case, it's a moot point.  Azhtek has decided to shut down the Ventrilo for reasons of cost-effectiveness.  Since the site update, it's become a lot more expensive to keep up, and as I feared would happen, Ventrilo became an unjustified expense.  I'll be locking this topic.  Sorry to everyone who wanted to become more active.

As for you, Cheeky, please do calm down.  Nobody was saying anything accusatory or rude at all.  This is a warning for you.
