The Chat

Okay, so there was a little incident today that has made me realise that a lot of people are going to be coming from Yiffy, and their chat allows people to have a quickie in the main room. So I'll just post briefly about what each of the rooms are for, and what you can and can't do in them.

The End of Time Club: This is the main room of the site, and is for casual roleplay. The EoTC is a fixed RP situation, meaning that you cannot do a *Spawns a recliner*, since it would be useless are the EoTC already has them. (I'll be putting up reference images and a description later on, but for now more important things beckon.) It is also a No Sex zone. If you want to get it awn, there is a public sex channel, and your own private channel. This is a courtesy to those who show up to the site and are not interested in others going at it. EoTC was created by Kozack.

The End of Time Forest: Basically, this is where you'd drag things that people would go tl;dr at. It's also a place where you can hold meetings with friends (For whatever reason).

Room 1447: Pretty straightforward. Sex is allowed for those that want to do it in public.

The Quiet Room: Again, pretty straightforward. Non-RP chat, so you can more or less just go there to chill out if there's too much noise or RP in the EoTC.

Having a few technical issues with the chat. Should be resolved shortly. If more information presents itself, I'll post it up here.

So here's the situation so far.

Our chat is hungry. Being AJAX-based, it's very resource hungry, and has started using up more server resources (IE, processing power and memory) than is really allowable.

Thus, one of two things had to happen. We find a new chat, or I upgrade us to a virtual server. And seeing as finding a new chat that is able to be merged with SMF databases is a fucking bitch of a thing to do, something I spent the better part of two months looking around for before I found AJAX, I've decided to upgrade us.

What this means for you guys? Not much. You probably won't even notice the difference. What it means for me, however, is paying a little more to get more out of the site. So given that I'll have more invested, I'll be working towards making the site better.

This also means that I'll have root admin access, so finally third party applications can be installed by and run by me on the server. Rock on.

Anyway, I hope to have things set up in a few days at most, given my schedule, so bear with me on this. Things will be back to normal soon enough.

Well let us know if there's any way we can help Azh. I know what you mean about the chat software, it was hell for me to locate a decent one to install on the school servers back in high school; they needed something that could be constantly monitored with ease, and allowed high levels of censoring, etc.  not to mention their servers were crap, but I finally found echatserver.com.  I hope you're able to sort it out ,best of luck to ya!
One day, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure its worth watching.

Unless you were online for the five minutes during the transition and saw the maintenance mode on the old site, you probably wouldn't have noticed that we are now on a new server. The chat should be operational shortly, and business can resume as normal.

The nameservers may still be propagating, so if you know someone that is still unable to access the site, chances are their ISP hasn't updated to the new server names, and it's a matter of time, so they'll have to just wait it out. DNS propagation takes up to around 48 hours, but it can be finished much sooner. Have them check back regularly if they can't access the site right now.

Well, other than perhaps having to choose your font colour again, and the profiles option not working till I can correct some errors in the Java scripts, the chat is functional again.

Post errors that you find here.

Enjoy.

Thanks Azh!
