Title: Shayla Scribbles - Commissions, Trades, and Doodles
Post by: Shay on September 16, 2015, 11:57:19 PM
So finally getting around to making my art thread, which will be devoted to posting owed artwork, trades, random scribbles, and all other manner of things. I'll also be posting commission statuses, weekly discounts, livestream updates (for when I start streaming soon) among other little treats.

I'll also be updating with the FW Family Photo, including colored sketches of all the characters (to help me get the designs right), gestural sketches, WIPs, and all that good stuff. I encourage people who are participating this year to leave feedback so that I can make sure to get most the details correct!

It's up to you! I check my FA more frequently usually, but I'll keep an eye open for a note either way!

Okay, so just an update, I've finished 7/18 (I believe??) quick concept sketches for the family portrait. I had hoped to have them all done by today (since they're pretty fast for me to draw, since it's so loose) but my dad has been having me work 6-8 hours at his shop lately in exchange for me living with him. I'm going to be staying up all night and posting them as I finish them, so hopefully I'll have them all done before noon tomorrow.

Also have a bunch of sketch pages (just ink doodles mostly) to scan, so once I get my scanner up I'll post them too. The family portrait should be done by the end of November, but I'm aiming for November 15th through the 20th.

And I plan on doing the drawings in a painterly art style, but if people want clean lineart drawings (not like these sketches, a bit nicer than that) please tell me! I might add a poll or something later. Anyway, expect the rest of these throughout the night.

Well, clearly, too late to get in on the portrait, but, as I noted ya, would like to commission ya for a similar-style, I'm Boxymoron that posted at you on Furaffinity. I'll work up a full writeup for my character for you here, in a moment. Any particular place you would like me to leave you the info?

If the black tip wasn't there on the tail then I'd be a filthy least weasel. ;D (In other words, that's all correct.) A bit scruffier than I had in my mind but I suppose if I'm tangling with Celi then I'd be a bit ruffled.

Thanks!

Forgot to come post stuff and updates here, there is so much to keep track of lately!

Okay, so I'm posting some recent commissions and such that I've finished the last few days, and wanted to give a general update on the FW family portrait status. Since I had to go on a small hiatus due to family related issues, I've been working overtime to crank out as much artwork as possible. There was a few projects that I needed to get done before working more on character sketches for the project, but starting tomorrow I'm going to start posting more character concepts.

Before I start working on the family portrait, I'm doing:
-Basic colored sketch (like the ones I've posted)
-Sketch page of character
-Slightly more rendered final image (with corrections if the first one had mistakes)

The deadline for the picture is December 31st, which is why I'm somewhat taking my time in honing my skills with so many concepts before jumping into the project. Once I finish drawing all the concepts, I'll post six thumbnails (everyone will choose the one they like the best), then a sketch to be approved, and at that point I'll begin coloring.

I have a Trello that details my to-do list here: https://trello.com/b/RvMD71Lv/lethe-s-to-do-list
Just click the FW Family Photo for the progress of the image, I've laid it out so that it shows when I've finished every single character and who has to be rendered.

Anyway, I hope to be more active here next week, but for this week I'm pretty much working non-stop on artwork. In the meantime, here's some stuff!

Hey guys, just wanted to post a long overdue update since a lot of people have been more or less in the dark about what's been going on.

So the last few months haven't been the best for me as far as my health is concerned. It was already a sort of rollarcoaster since mid-2015, but the last four months it's been escalating. I've been hospitalized twice, and on a few weeks ago I blacked out and had many stroke-like symptoms. I've been working with my doctor to find out what's going on. I've been in bed for 12-14 hours at a time, and just feel very weak, but I try to work at least a couple of hours a day until I get a little more strength back.

I only have two more character studies to do before I can start the big picture, but I wanted to compensate everyone for being so patient. So we have a couple of options. So after I finish and post these last two images, I can do one of the following:

1. Immediately start working on image, and have it done by the end of January. Then maybe do some little chibis or something of the characters at a later date.

2. Draw all the characters one more time, at least one a day, in this style ( http://sushigryphon.deviantart.com/art/Bird-569122069
http://sushigryphon.deviantart.com/art/Dragon-569345269 ) with revisions of characters after feedback, and THEN do the family photo as a 2016 picture. The benefit of this is that I can have a little more time to recover (and so I don't have to cram it in the next week or two and possibly have the quality suffer because of my health, that and I'll be able to more accurately represent each character), and you guys get an additional picture.

So if you guys could get me some feedback, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'll be checking in the next couple of days to answer any comments.

SO the pictures below, I do have some questions for everyone, and some questions for you guys individually. They are as follows:
1. Characters without clothes, do you want to be in outfits or do you prefer the character design itself?
2. If your character is wearing clothing, do you want the clothing in the reference or do you want something separate? (if so, please post a link so I have some ideas!)
3. LEGS!! If I got the legs wrong in any of the images, please tell me so I know what sort of leg style you want.

Individual questions:
Celi: I had to sort of guess with the hairstyle, so if there's a different hairstyle you want for your character (or any additional markings/piercings/anything) you want me to add, go ahead and send me a reference of 'somewhat' how you want the hair or other features to look.
Druscilla: I don't know if I got the features right for the character (facial structure, the shirt, etc.) so if there's anything wrong, please tell me! I did omit the piercings and the jewelry because I was a bit confused as to what you wanted, so if you could send me some references so I know what they look like, it'd be helpful!
Stakie: There were a couple of different hairstyles in the reference, so I wasn't sure what sort you wanted. If you have a preference, feel free to tell me!
Zurr: What color do you want the feathers under the wings to be? Also, did you want the character to be bipedal or anthro? And if there's any other details you need added to the design, go ahead and speak up!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to speak up. Hope to talk to you guys more very soon!

The anatomy of Zurr looks good here, no complaints on that. I'd say no clothes for him, though his fur should be in rosette patterns, not stripes.

The second option is the one I'd prefer, as it would put less stress on you.

I would agree with #2. With everything that you've had to deal with, it wouldn't be kind of us to force you into a deadline so soon when you're still recovering. The work you've done so far is great so just do what you can manage. Hope you feel better soon too.

I say go with the second option, no reason to stress yourself just to get it done a little faster, we've all paid already and honestly, art suffers when the artist is pressured. Take the time you need Shay.

The only change I'd want on mine is a SMALL change to the clothes, I have a reference image I'm going to upload to this post.

The small change is that instead of a shirt, the sketch I've attached has Mikk wearing a leather breastplate, it'd be black (like the rest of his outfit) with silver for those bolts in the middle.

I think the hair style is perfect, and the only thing I would really say is that the character would be a little thinner looking than that. It turned out very well. No clothes though, I thought I'd want something but I like the way it looks without said clothing.

As for the options, definitely the second. Do get better soon, that sounds rough.

Your choice is fine. (It was meant to be the artists choice anyway.)

Considering the state of your health, I think all of us here speak in the sane voice; taking more time for your health is more important than pumping this out by the month's end. We all hope your health improves and stays that way soon.

That being said, option 2 is my pick; quality beats quantity any day. Also, love how I was drawn ^^
