So, as it was brought up in this thread (http://www.furry-within.com/index.php/topic,1160.0.html), I thought I'd take another jab at it. The old files I'd planned on using are on my PC, which is currently in component form in a box, in my suitcase. So I'm starting over.
What I've got so far is a rudimentary map. It just shows the fundamental landmass of the world. http://i.imgur.com/TMnJw84.png
For the sake of simplicity of design, you can see that I've made it a super-continent with a few surrounding islands. I haven't calculated the scale for the map just yet, so presume it to be around the same size as Earth.
What I was hoping to get was some input from people. What do you want in this thing? Do you want me to create some world-specific races that people can play? Do you want magic, and if so do you want a system in place for that magic so that you don't have people just godmodding around the place? What level of technology do you want? Do you have any input on any cultural or governmental things between or within nations?
There can't be too much information you can give me with regards to world-building. If anyone would like to contribute to this, now is the time, before I just go ahead and do it and have no one play it.
My two cents, for reference, is cyberpunk, ala Shadowrun, but it would be fun to do with a wide range of tech levels.
Well kor the problem is is that most people are going to want to play embrace that is closest to the characters that they ready have exist. So the typical furry races would be awesome. That way everyone has something that they can play for something that they feel comfortable playing.
My suggestion is to split races with natural resources that given and advantage.
If you can find a way how the person can either choose to use magic or technology and even that out so its fair towards everyone. After all there is nothing worse than the mage with an AK 47 talk about over powered.
I suggest that every race has its own independent government. However I'd enjoy conflict. Sort of like Dragonlance were there where you're in a war or you're coming out of a war.
Honestly technologies in the big issue for me. However race-specific weapons would be awesome. You have to talk to everyone that wants to play to figure out what kind of weapon systems to set up the place to make it fair for everyone else.
Honestly the biggest problem you're going to have is how often people can post. I'm not opposed to large-scale Multi player worlds. However you should sort out your players into smaller groups and have an overall story arc that encompasses them all. That way you have people to post office together and people who want to play but can't post as often together as well. That way no one is waiting for the other person to post.
Truth is everyone wants to feel as if they're contributed to the story as if they play a piece of semi important role in effects to the world around them. However not everyone can play a main character in the group survive.
I personally would like to see some grittiness in the story. Where everything is kind of grey and a happy ending isn't always the case. I like seeing how characters which are due to conflict and how they change slowly because of it.
I'd also like to see everyone have either one major flaw and one major benefits that they bring to the group.
I'd like to see magic if any Be balance out.
Too often do I see worlds being built around the dichotomy of tech vs magic. If you could find another way to shape the divisions of nations, maybe some introductiom of other world-changing forces (I suppose some form of science magic like alchemy from something like full metal, or even something else; perhaps a biological forve like that of Attack on Titan) would be a nice thing. As for combat systems, I definitely think, to keep things on a level field, action chance and damage should be stat and dice based. Beyond that, I have little input at this time but may have more suggestions in the future. Lex out :3
I would say something like a world where the continents are, on a flat map (So they would look quite weird on a globe but it'd work probably) are concentric circles. They either go horizontally, with the one going along the equator being the longest, with two large land/ice-masses to the north and south centers.
Or as I've thought, vertically. There is one large, volcanic island maybe (Maybe just a huge volcano. Or just ocean. Or mist in which no one returns from) on the side of the planet, with concentric circles of land going out with that spot as it's centers.
Maybe each concentric circle has it's own population that has evolved in their own way. Maybe the one closest to the centre has evolved with magic due to it's proximity to this 'special' centre. Each concentric circle outwards lessens the amount of magic, and as such, increases the technological advancements the people on those ring-continents have made in order to survive. I even have an order in mind for what each of the rings would behave and look like.
Maybe these rings aren't able to reach eachother due to some force or natural behaviour special to the planet. Or the current time at which roleplaying takes place, is a 50 or so years after traveling inbetween ring-continents is possible, so these continents have just managed to make a stable connection with eachother. That would let characters of different origin (fantasy, modern day, steampunk, hextech, and so on) meet with eachother. And there would be plenty of things to roleplay about. I have some more thoughts about the world, the more I think about it, the more ideas I get.
