Title: New RP standards in Chat!
Post by: Libby on April 22, 2017, 10:49:17 AM
So, something many people have been asking for, for a good while, is the freedom to publicly bang in the main chat. So. Whether you're an exhibitionist, a voyeur, or you're just too lazy to go to a private channel, you're in luck! Oh, also if, y'know, you just want fuck. So have at! And have fun. Keep in mind though, this is a trial. Depending on how it turns out, we'll either keep it going or it'll get nixed after a bit. Show us you guys really want this!

Eh, this isn't for me. I don't like seeing people go at it as soon as I enter the chat. Just not tasteful for to me.

However, I can understand it, if it is wanted by the majority.

Remember that if this isn't to your taste, that's okay. There are multiple other rooms available, and everyone's got a private room that they can invite multiple people into. The hope with this change, as far as I can tell, is that people will feel more open and encouraged to RP as they like, without the fear of toeing the line. This opens things up to feeling more natural and free flowing.

Keep in mind you can always ignore something, if you find yourself unable to tune out some dramatic fuckery~

I'm altogether excited to see people RPing more openly and more commonly. No holds barred, etcetera.  :P

Perhaps there's an add-on, a mod, or something of that nature for the chat program that will let you select the "fucking" or "non-fucking" section when you log in?

That's the thing, you don't have to RP 24/7. There are many other channels, and, as far as I know, you can set your channel to be the OoC channel to log into. If you aren't keen on logging into a channel that -might- contain people RPing, then you can set yourself to log into the channel that definitely won't. From there, you can take a peek in, and if there's stuff going on you don't want to see and you don't have the ability to just look over it, then you can just explore the other channels.

This change isn't meant to alienate, it's meant to encourage people to consider their options more. Currently, there's a good chunk of the user base who logs into the main channel and idles, not even interacting with others in an OoC manner. If that's what you're looking for, why are you even logging in? This change will allow those people to migrate to the OoC room, and allow those who do like to RP to feel more comfortable and open about RPing as they like. At the end of the day, the majority of people who come here initially are looking for some sort of furry RP. We are simply trying to put our best foot forward so that those people know that they can find that here. And hopefully, the user base will grow.

I myself don't mind the RP only, it's the yiffing. The idea of having to go to another channel to avoid it doesn't work, because only the OOC and Gaming channel are non adult, and with that, they are OOC, not RP. There is no longer any "non adult RP channel" unless you go into a NON RP channel.

The other problem is the majority of people who DON'T feel the same way, will end up staying in the primary channel. So the minority group who want to avoid the adult stuff and still have people to interact with, are kind of left out.

Again though, that's my opinion, and probably not the majority.

So, Kozack, what you are saying is that you want it your way and no one else gets to have an opinion? Because, according to your end of the argument, that seems to be your underlying point. Now, as far as I can tell, the changes have been asked for well before you came along, Kozack. Seems to me that the battle you want to wage was lost before it started. Then there is one fact overlooked here. There is always Whispers. You don't have to just sit in an empty room and do nothing. Yes Whispers may be a little more involved, but you cannot deny them the usage they probably see anyway. I can understand your point, Kozack. I am not into the whole public scene and I am very sure Libby and the Admin took notice that there would be opposition to this change and took what measure they could to stem negativity. You point has been made, Kozack, and iut is now time to either accept it and find ways to cope or move on and find another Chat. Keep in mind, however, you will not be able to avoid Public Yiffing elsewhere forever. Furries tend to lean towards yiff heavily and I have run across ALOT of other sites that are just as relaxed on the rules. I would encourage you to stay and give it a chance. People here seem respectable and I don't see chat becoming a non-stop orgy right off the bat. It may not be as bad as you might think.

And I like talking to multiple people, so I don't want to sit here juggling whispers when I want to chat with buddies and such, I very rarely only have a one on one conversation unless we're doing something that actually needs to be private.
I guess my biggest hangup on the whole deal is the zero tolerance for people who don't want to RP in general, but still want to chill with their buddies who do, if that makes any sense.

Also sorry for being kurt at any point this weekend, I was pretty sloshed most of the time

Once again. People not giving the situation a chance. Not being able to see beyond your own noses must be nice. No really. That is exactly what is going on here. This is an RP site. RP stands for Role Play. That is a factor that should, in all reality, be considered here. You want to chat about your Favorite Video Game, Movie, Pokémon, Hobby, or Dream Car? There are TONS of other places people can do that. Instead? Seem like you limit yourself to one place. The wrong place if you factor in what this place is actually for. That would be RP. That is not to say that you cannot have a civil conversation in the chat. It just means you need to respect other people's wishes as much as you expect them to respect yours. It is a give and take type of deal here. You also need to understand that not everyone is going to RP sex all the time. There IS that possibility. Give this change a chance at the very least. See what happens. If it does not suit you then do what you must, but be warned. You will run across this just about everywhere you go as far as Furry chat goes. Your options are limited.

I don't see how you can interpret it that way. As I said many a time, I can understand it if it's in the majorities desire. I was merely stating my not liking it, and adding a few flaws to the idea of going to a different channel. There needs to be an addition of a "casual RP" channel, or a "non-adult" RP channel.

I'm not trying to battle or anything.

I've seen a few people complaining about this change. Here in the forums, and in the chat. And I've come to a few conclusions. Buckle up, kiddies.

1.) By and large, those of you complaining in the forums have come into the chat -very little- as I've seen. As such, I think this is a change that you are not educated enough to make a comment on, personally. Since the change has been implemented, I have not once seen public sex RP. People here are respectful, and they don't just wave their wang around at the first chance. But because you all have just been negative nancy flavored since you read that things were changing (which, btw, it seems like a complaint just to complain, to me, if you aren't even joining the chat), you haven't bothered to pop into the chat much and see what's going on. Further, if you want there to be RP that isn't sex related, Azh has provided us with a really amazing room set up. Do something. Further, there's also a room of requirement sort of channel. If there's not something for you in the main channel, you can literally create your own environment with some imagination.

2.) FW has always encouraged more thought provoking RP beyond "two characters meet, two character bang." If two people are RPing sex in the main channel, chances are there's something more going on between their characters. This isn't just about sex, more often than not. And if you all took the chance to slow down and think about that, maybe the RP that goes on, well written as it is, might intrigue you more. Sex is a part of life. It's rare you're going to find an RP that is COMPLETELY void of anything sex flavored. At least here it's well written.

3.) If you don't want to RP at all? There are channels for that. You're complaining that you can't just speak casually with people. And there are a few of you complaining about that. Okay, so move channels and talk to each other? Some initiative is required, I get that. But I think you all can manage that. You navigated to the site yourself. It's just a few more clicks.

4.) Whispers are too limiting for you? You want to talk to more than one friend at a time? Well, each user is provided with their own private room. The best thing about this is that you can invite any number of players that you'd like! It's entirely up to you! You can RP there, sex, not sex, just causal conversation, or a mix of it all! There's no rules at all there. I've had around 15 people in my private room at once for a very large community RP. There's no excuse here, in my opinion. If you want something, make it happen.

5.) This change was implemented in order to encourage the growth of this website. If you don't like this change, please suggest an alternative that will attract and keep fresh members rolling in and participating in events and the site at wide. If your option works, then the need to have the main channel exciting and not a bunch of afk or idling usernames will vanish, and they'll be able to set it back to a PG channel.

6.) You are hanging out in the forums already and ignoring the public sex RP threads (which by and large get the most attention aside from forum games). If you're able to be adult enough to brush over those posts and not get overly offended and upset by them, why can't you do the same in the chat? Someone's got a paragraph long post about how they're taking it up the ass? You don't want to see it? Easy fix: don't read it. You might glimpse a word or two. But honestly, if you are offended by a word or two, you might not be old enough to be a member on this website anyway.

I know this is a long post. Thank you for humoring me. But honestly, there are so many solutions to, honestly, a nonissue. If you don't like something, ignore it. It isn't hurting you. If you want another channel to be more popular, populate it. If you think there needs to be a channel added, then have a discussion with Libby and Azh (for the record, and those of you who do not know, Libby is our Admin and Azh is our technical Admin; meaning he'll add the channel, but you should be discussing these things with her as much or more). They want this site to thrive, not wither and die. If there's a real demand and need for something, they'll listen. Give it a chance.

So you're saying even doing something as minimal as yawning, stretching, shifting position, looking in a direction, describing any minuscule action AT ALL is too much for you, so you'd rather leave than take the time to put a little creativity into a reply or statement?

I work long hours and I'm usually pretty drained by the time I'm home. It's a good day when I can write coherent sentences without much trouble, let alone trying to figure out what my fictional character would be doing at the same time. Again I have no problem with (most) RP, personally don't like trying to talk over people bumping nasties but that's not the topic at hand, I'm just not a fan of the way it's being implemented in a "RP or else" fashion.
Some days I'm energetic enough/in the mood for/etc for some RP, but there's (probably more) days where I'm just too tired to give a damn about what Hawke's doing in his fictional land.

This sounds like an excuse just to complain to me, still, honestly. No one is FORCING you to post a fifteen paragraph explication on exactly what your character is doing when. In fact, what Libby wants is probably something you already do without realizing it. Furthermore, as said many times, if you really just want to have conversation with ZERO RPing going on for yourself or those around you, there are other channels for that. No one is limiting you, or forcing you to do anything. In fact, the change is the removal of limits, for those that were forced to restrict their creative flow. And still, four full days after it's been enacted, I've not seen a single couple (or more) flapping their dicks around, getting in other people's ways.

As I understand, you are fairly new to FW. As such, you might not know this, but people here are pretty chill. In general, that is. If someone's RPing something you are insanely uncomfortable with, you are always free to ask them to either 1) tone it down, or 2) maybe take it private. They are not obligated to, but the chances of someone not wanting to make others uncomfortable here is high. It's a nice community, and as soon as you stop complaining and give it a chance, you might see that.

It is odd.  I do not see any bumping and grinding going on.  Why not just give it a chance? Why even join the chat if you are unwilling to RP? Were you unaware of this site's purpose?

I joned cause Kris invitied me. And she pretty much described it as a place where you can RP if you wish, but most people hang out. Hell when I first got here if people were going to RP they'd go to the... Room of necessity? I think that's what it was called, can't remember honestly. People could do general, light RP in the main chat but if they were going to be getting more intimate or doing more in depth RP they'd go to one of the other channels. I fail to see how this was an inefficient system, but that's just my personal opinion.

As for "Why even join the chat if you are unwilling to RP?" Pretty sure I already said that in here, but just in case I haven't, I actually enjoy just talking to people, not trying to pretend to be someone else (shocker I know). I liked shooting the shit with people and not having to think "What would Hawke do" or some crazy shit. 9 times out of 10 it's not even that I'm unwilling, I'm just unable, sleep deprivation and stress mix for one helluva brain fryer by the time you're done with work.

And Bones (sorry for post mod, missed your reply): I asked if people were going to be punished for not RP'ing and was told that "if it comes to that, yes." I don't think that's really opening people's options up. Literally the only problem I have is that. I don't care if people RP in chat, I don't enjoy when people fuck in chat but most of the time it doesn't get bad enough to where it makes it difficult for people to converse "normally."

You're operating under a lot of what ifs and assumptions, it seems to me. I had real life stuff going on when you joined, so I wasn't around. I don't know what things were like then. But at the end of the day, it has been decided that this is something the site is going to try, so that when new people come (for furry fandom debauchery, as most new people do come for) they see that we are active and that we accept all sorts of RP and RP styles. This isn't some sort of ploy to turn the main channel into a sex crazed orgy pit. Literally almost nothing has changed.

As for being forced to RP, we've gone over in detail how you can go around that if you do not wish to simply exert minimal effort. You can 1) simply make minimal actions occasionally with the people you are chatting with, 2) go to the other channels, 3) use whispers, or 4) move to a private channel with the people you'd like to chat with. I've known Libby for a while now, and she's never gotten unnecessarily angry that what I've said to the chat hasn't included an action which extends 140 characters. It isn't like this is some fascist regime all of a sudden. Typing up a "waves to [insert name], then turns back to [insert name]." here and there isn't going to kill you. If you don't have the mental fortitude enough for that kind of thing, how do you have the mentality to maintain a conversation at all?

It's like I said before, these are essentially complaints just to complain. You haven't even been in the chat, that I've seen, since this was posted. You have zero idea what's actually going on in the chat, and therefore you cannot make an educated opinion about it. Furthermore, as Libby said, if you were already leaving anyway, why does this effect you? Personally, I don't want anyone to leave the chat, and believe there are several options open to you, but if you aren't enjoying it, why continue to try to start drama in the forum section of our site?
