Title: Gaming competition? [With Prizes!]
Post by: Tanya on May 21, 2017, 11:09:22 AM
This is nothing set yet,  just something I'm tossing into the air to see if people are interested.

I'm thinking of hosting a gaming competition, one that will have prizes. At first I was thinking of doing a FFA in Rust,  people will get two lives. Last person standing gets a prize. However not everyone will have that game that may want to compete,  there are plenty of other games,  even free to play ones. Even perhaps Ovetwatch,  1v1s tournament style. It is free next weekend afterall.

I'm posting this to see if anyone would actually be interested.

Would not mind doing some tournaments, especially if we can find a free version of the game somewhere, plenty of those sorts around. Even some abandonware games, too.

When I'm back from exams I would totally be up for this. Also I suggest some free games from steam would be best to get the ball rolling for most people, Ill do some looking into that.

I'm not too sure how HOTS could work, I would like it to be a FPS or 3rd person shooter, maybe an action game because it's going to be 1v1s.

Once I know there are enough people to start it, I plan on looking into free games since I figure that would be best.

Well, we could do team competitions if we get enough people? Randomize the teams so they aren't stacked in one persons favor. (I'd suggest league of legends, but they have separate servers.)

For overwatch teams, it could be you get points towards winning. First person to X points wins or most points at the end of the competition wins. A team win gets a point, a play of the game gets a point, if you are one of the people on the vote screen after the match, a point. if you are voted up the most, another point.

I thought about this, but the winning person/team will earn a prize. This prize will come out of my own expense and I don't want to put up an entry fee. So I don't want to prize to be too expensive for me to spend on.

That's why I thought about it being the person with the most points. So if they get upvotes on the vote cards at the end, or if they get play of the game, they end up with more points to win.

I'll have to take this into consideration. I'm not sure about making Overwatch the game though, I'm sure there might be plenty of people who want to join that do not have the game, so I'm taking a glance at free games. I'd like to make it as equal and as even as possible so everyone has a shot of winning.

True, everyone should be able to participate. I'm just throwing suggestions to make certain things work.

And I do thank you for this! I am taking what you are saying into consideration as I build upon this competition, if it is going to happen. It's a chance to get free prizes, who wouldn't be excited about that?

So I was thinking Quake 2/3 for this.

Singles and doubles? Sounds like it would be a good time.
