Title: Books and Jitters (any may join!)
Post by: Jen on June 06, 2017, 01:15:39 PM
Just out of high school, and out of that mess, and into an even bigger mess than high school?! Yup, sure sounded like the life and times of the poor 18-year-old vixen known as Jennifer alright. She had started right on the beginning day of the winter semester, which was perfect for her as she knew most of the crazier lot had taken their leave of the campus because 'too fucking cold' for their tastes. Which she honestly had to laugh at because they didn't honestly know what 'cold' really was unless they were born in Fairbanks like herself.

She herself was an interesting card in her own respects. She usually kept her hair short and was one of those kids that basically was the biggest damned geek-or-nerd on campus. Brown metallic frames of unknown manufacturer holding the oval shaped lenses over her eyes and her usual clothing attire consisted of honestly bland and basic stylish clothing. And that's the bad thing! The university she had enrolled in was a granted major school, but the students here also weren't anal and focusing on ONLY work all the damned time.

Seemed like, of course, every time the weekend rolled around and soon, everyone was out and about doing some sort of crazy thing. Well... save for one uncertain and confused snow fox, that seemed to have more people interested in her than she honestly knew.

The vixen of course really didn't have anyone to really call a 'friend' on campus. Yeah sure, she had friends over in other places she yammered on at on skype from time to time, but that was GENERALLY about it when it came down to a social life. Did she honestly want friends in college? Yes. Was she honestly going to make herself take that step forward? Probably not, due to the poor fox being so... shy. A running joke at her expense did still float around the campus, people idly joking about different ways to get her to come out of her shell, how to honestly make her lighten up and be more fun and enjoyable. Though she didn't know the person per se by name, it seemed that one girl had left an odd mark on her mind that honestly confused her... this person, of course, had stolen her first kiss, right in front of a bunch of the other student bodies and the like.

Of course, those wonders and confusions just might come to an end soon. Quite soon, in fact... and it would only be a matter of time before everything became quite clear, and then some...

All wrapped up in a fleece jacket, leggings and a pair of UGG boots the odd colored cat pressed her way into a cafe that was nestled in the corner. Part bookstore and part cafe -- the smells of paper and coffee made her warm inside and out. This place was the perfect place for Verity to sort her schedule out.

She trudged in heading for a booth on the far right side, passing a really pretty vixen on her way in. She had seen the girl briefly in passing as they'd both set up their classes and got their paperworks settled. Of course, the girl hadn't noticed her, even if she did, Verity was a rather basic person. A wall flower, if you will.

Verity tossed her heavy satchel into the booth before she slid in and quickly waved at a barista who happily flitted over. She ordered a black coffee, no cream and no sugar.

The odd little cat fussed with a pair of headphones before sticking them into her her phone and playing some music to help her drown the noise out.

Sipping on her coffee and peering over her laptop, she eyed the vixen, totally not in a creepy way or nothing, just a "I think I know you" kind of way.

Maybe she'd get some courage to go talk to her?

The vixen really wasn't much to honestly look at herself, being in a current outfit of a warm dark grey sweatshirt, a pair of blue jeans and a simple pair of Nike trainers, of course built for those that were digigrade in design! The vixen wasn't much of a person to honestly go to cafes around campus, she honestly preferred to work outside amongst nature, but today was one of those exception days for her as she just wanted to be kind of in doors!

The fox had one earphone in her right ear, listening to a bit of music herself as she kept an eye and ear out for things, her senses seeming to perk up as she felt eyes on her, her glance turning from the linux box of a laptop in front of her, up and around until she finally laid eyes on the feline girl... huh, she seemed familiar, didn't she?

Giving a wave of greeting, she honestly now wondered for a moment if she would come over now.., if not, well, she was only a table away from where the girl was currently sitting.

Uh-oh! Caught! She grinned and waved back, shutting her laptop and stuffing it back into it's bag before pushing it under the booth. With a giggle she grabbed her coffee and skipped out of the booth and walked over to the other girl.

"Hiya, hon. So sorry if I weirded you out," she started, sipping her coffee. "You just looked extremely familiar and i was having trouble placing where I'd met you."

She wrapped both of her hands around the mug of coffee. "Say, do you mind if I sit here?"

"Where you know me from..? Er, well unless you went to Deluthia Academy, I... don't think you would know me..." she said with a small nervous smile as that academy was one of those high cost uniform private schools that one was usually sent to if you were rich or gifted. Of course in Jennifer's case, she really wasn't either.

As she heard the question, she nodded yes and motioned to the seat next to her. "Free country, so go ahead~" she said with a soft smile as she decided to introduce herself anyways: "So, I'm Jennifer, and my last name kind of varies on who you happen to know me to be... heh, it's nice to meet you miss..?" she left the question open for her to fill in the blank, so to speak.

Albeit, the vixen did have a few odd stories behind her, albeit all but one was back in high school and goodness knows what else out there... maybe she wouldn't think of her as beyond weird due to that damned stunt that happened a few weeks back?

"I think we me-- well, I couldn't call it meeting since we haven't even spoke before this," she spoke softly, the lilt of her voice carrying through the busy cafe. "I think I saw you briefly when we both went to set up classes." She trailed off, swigging from her coffee mug.

She quickly slid into her seat, setting the coffee on the table and leaning in on her elbows. The chubby cat grinning softly as she listened to the other gal speak.

"Oh! Me! I'm Verity Liore!" she laughed, forgetting to even introduce herself to the other girl. "You can call me Vee or Verity, what ever works for you, love. And it's extremely nice to meet you, Jennifer!" She offered the vixen her hand.

Jennifer chuckled slightly and took the hand, giving it a firm yet delicate shake as she wasn't all that bad looking... the only thing about the vixen in question was the fact she looked so darned nerdy! "Well, regardless, is nice to meet you, Vee... fluff..." she said with a silly grin before giggling softly and leaning in before she could respond, hugging the girl carefully as to not knock over their drinks or whatever. "Haa... sorry!" she leaned back and gave a small blush as she rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment.

Maybe it wasn't so bad... Jennifer was always an oddball, granted, and she had her stories roaming around like dust in the wind. She settled back in her seat with a soft smile, those violet eyes of hers closing halfway as she stared toward the kitty through those muzzle bridge glasses of hers, something one just didn't see much of as they usually were too expensive to even afford, and goodness heavens if she ever broke those things!

Jennifer, of course, was downright embarrassed to no end once her phone began to ring, the song "If you're going to play in Texas" by Alabama began to chime out. Jeeze... her inner redneck must be showing quite loudly now, don't you think? She quickly yanked the phone out and tried to shut it up, ending up dropping it onto the table and... yep, she silenced it alright, not the most conventional way of doing it either as she had just shattered the screen on the phone from that fumble up. "Well fuck me..." was all she could say in mild annoyance. "Welp! Guess poor Verizon is gonna love me come next Monday!" she said with a small, forced laugh as she hated it when stuff like that happened... was so damned annoying too.

"A... Anyways, er, what classes are you taking? Anything in particular by chance?" she asked, trying to change the topic off of the busted phone and horrible taste in ringtone before it got any more awkward and humiliating for the poor snowfox!

Verity studied the girl and smiled softly at her and offered her a paw, but was quickly taken back when she leaned across the table to hug her. Ooh! A hugger! Vee squealed happily, damn near knocking everything over

She was downright cute, to be honest and she smelled amazing. Like sunshine...

She'd never expected to run into anyone that she expected to get along with so well on her first week on campus and making friends was extremely difficult, too. She was really awkward. That didn't seem to bother Jennifer, though. Bonus.

Jen's phone went off in a flurry of noise and Vee watched her fumble with it and when it hit the table with a heavy thud, she winced. If it was any help, she didn't mind the music.

"Well, the good news is you didn't drop it in the toilet," she laughed. "I bricked one last week. It fell out of my pocket when I pulled my shorts up." She shrugged and pulled out an old flip phone with a giggle. "I stepped back a few years. At least this one holds up!"

She stuffed it back into her bag and leaned back a little."Classes? OH!" She took a sip of her coffee, her fingers lacing around the mug as she leaned in on her elbows. I'm currently taking a couple basic classes just to get them out of the way. I'm also taking Drama I, despite the fact that i have awful stage fright I do like to act and write scripts. What about you?"

Jennifer smiled a bit at the returned question. "Drama and, ironically, Computer Science... crazy how I can manage to flip between the two of them, isn't it?" she asked with a sweet smile on her face yet again, she did really like that she had made a friend on campus herself... personally she didn't really find herself connecting with too many people to actually have friends, and it seemed that she had at least made the connections for the moment for such a thing to happen. Right?

"Personally I'm taking Drama for the heck of it all... something fun to help me along in order to counterbalance the pissiness of Computer Science." she added, before giving a blink at the flip phone, not able to help herself but smile at such a relic of the past. "Well, I'd say that if you soaked your old phone in rice or something... it'd maybe work again, then again, I would imagine that dropping it into a toilet was the ultimate murderboning for the poor thing"

She hummed a bit before tapping her chin with a finger quickly and getting an idea to maybe further this conversation along. "So... what kind of music do you usually listen to?" she asked curiously, figuring that she'd probably be into something mainstream... the vixen personally was a universal listener to music, but as of late she'd been on a really heavy EDM streak herself, for some reason she found it quite interesting to hear the rhythmic pulses in her ears every time she had to write an assignment on something... generally speaking, the current assignment she had on her plate was a toothache in itself.

"Also... er," she added slightly before trying to play a joke on her. "You have something on your shirt dear..." she said, hoping she'd not be mad if she fell into the biggest trap in the book, as she was feeling kind of well... playful, at the moment. If the kitty would look down, she'd get booped on the nose, not flicked like most would do, which she found to be rather rude and mean to do in the first place. That shit hurt!
