Title: STEAMPUNK ADVENTURE!
Post by: LaffinFox on August 06, 2017, 02:01:01 AM
Ok, so I know I've suggested this once or twice before in the chat, but I was thinking that we should do a sort of steampunk themed roleplay. Maybe with a little bit of diesel punk and other themes thrown in too.
Various character could meet up in a large central city for whatever their reasons may be, and each might uncover part of something that draws everyone together into one great big adventure. Some plot ideas I had are:

-Hunt down a jack-the-ripper style killer.
-Stop an assassination plot intended to start a world war.
-Prevent an eldritch cult from summoning an evil army/elder god.
-Explore an exotic location in search of a lost treasure/civilization.
-Stop a villains plot for world domination...
or possibly some combination of these things.

While I want to make this more story based as opposed to sex/violence based, these things are allowed and welcome. As far as weapons go, try to keep it either particularly steampunk, or at least 'period accurate' (for real weapons, circa late 1800's-WWI era, such as Colt 1873 New Model Army, Mauser C-96, or Carcano M1891 are all good ideas... Steampunk stuff should be more 1700's inspired, power-fist based on medieval armor gauntlet, shock lances, lightning blunderbuss, laser muskets... then of course there's all kinds of swords and whatnot too). As far as styling, I want to have the typical fashions reflect different in-story countries, with  hapsburg/german inspired country (mostly diesel punk), a US/Canada inspired area with a western frontier (with an old west feel to it perhaps), A centralized european kingdom inspired by england, france, and italy (with a more steampunk/victorian asthetic), and possibly and exotic africa/arabia inspired territory with deserts and jungles and stuff... (think indiana jones).

As for the character sheet, I was thinking a basic sort of D&D style setup, with dice rolls for combat/action scenes, and or other fitting situations.

This is all just baselines for ideas and whatnot, and I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks, please, let me know!

I'm down laffin, sounds fun. Let me know if you ever get this up and running I have a few questions I'd like to ask too.

hmmmm, I must be honest, I haven't ever played in a steampunk setting. So I know the General Genre, Diesel punk is something completely new to me.

So keeping with the spirit of things.
1. Are rubber based weapons considered steampunk as well?
2. are gravity based weapons considered steam punkish?
I've been playing with the idea for a character and was wondering if a gravity sword is out of the question. Think of it as a wire stretched by gravity. Stretched so taunt that it would cut through things.

Gib. Nao.

I want in on this, I think it'd be rather interesting to use Abney in this ruckus, for the heck of it all of course!
