With the ventrilo back online, and myself out of work for the time being. I'll throw my name in for being the local DJ for now. Upon getting Ventrilo to work with letting me play music over it with high quality sound instead of just leaving my mic on, I'm willing to take requests for music.
NOTE! please try to include music that I can download and play over winamp (MP3/MP4 or what ever file format you please) instead of posting it through a youtube link or whatnot. All music suggested will be sorted through, listened to, and given consideration. There are very few reasons why any song wouldn't be included. (Offensive intent) If a song that is played over vent is not to your liking, or is offensive to you please drop me a line and I'll make sure to remove it from the list. I have 2000 + songs right now of varying genre and sub genre, but expanding it will be up to the user base here. :)
Please do not abuse the right to exclude music because it is a particular genre that you enjoy. And most likely I'll simply have ventrilo open and playing the music while I am away. So consider it a radio station that is playing a wide variety of music with no commercials.
Also, this will be the thread for anyone willing to play a live DJ.
Throw down your resume (what you can offer during your DJ segment) , musical preference (and what kind of music you will be playing), time frame to which you are available as well as how long you wish to be the local DJ on ventrilo.
With a bit of guidance I'd definitely be down to do some DJing. If I don't meet any requirements then I'll just leave some music suggestions.
I have over 25 gigs of music and that collection is incomplete, I have another ~50GB on an external that's around here somewhere, aside from that I have no experience at all but I'm eager to learn 'cause I've been wanting to do something like this for awhile now. ^^
This is all still filed under "Possible", with the support of dedicated others it will be moved up to a higher priority.
And I'll be doing my best to come on in the early evening and host a show of requests and throw down some world news. Depending on who will join me, it could turn into a type of podcast. *crosses fingers?*
I can just do pre-recorded shows so I can go at any time.
If a pre recorded segment is done then I request immunity for any jokes that I pull live on the air about said segment. :P
Done and done. XP I just can't promise I'll be around at a specific time every day or even once a week so pre-recorded shows are probably the only way I'll be able to do it. What software will you be using?
Winamp to play the music, Vent to brodcast, and I don't know what to record. If I can work with VLC, and do a few test runs, I can see how well of a recording device it is.
So it'd just be your mic catching the music from your speakers?
If I wanted to do a show right now, I'd just have some music in the background. Nothing loud enough to really listen to. But other then that, I tried playing it over the mic from my speakers. Didn't turn out too well with the people listening. Though it did the job of being background music. Most people simply didn't enjoy it enough and went to media players of there own.
Ahhh....true. But the reason why I listen to radios is because I want to find new and awesome music so I'm hoping that's what I can provide. ^^ Plus if I put up a notice with what genres I'll be playing on what days then people won't have to worry as much about coming in on a day they won't like.
The genre's I'd be playing is what worries me. I understand open people who listen to music. But I'm not sure how many open minded people would listen to a radio station that plays Trance, black metal, rock, blues, R & B, and some other parts of the musical world.
To describe my worry. Its that if people don't like what they are listening to, that they will simply turn it off and move to another one. What I'm hoping for is that people will join into the channel (The vent has a series of channels for different topics. Two of them are music related. ) and relax to the music that is playing. The open book of music may not be so lovely to the people who enjoy a single type of genre. Which, I should say, is an easy problem to solve themselves.
I will be using winamp, which lets me display the current song over ventrilo as it plays. If the music isn't to your liking, you can just as easily mute the music and continue on with talking. I'll be playing it at a background level so the conversations will be be possible.
I'd set up something like:
Monday: trance
Tuesday: country
Wednesday: heavy metal
Thursday: Death metal
Friday: dubstep
...etc.
That way people can come in an listen on days that have genres that they'd like. ^^
Just one request. To keep the metal with metal. Going from heavy metal (classics such as Meat loaf, Iron maiden, ect) to new metal. You can use the open slot for either another genre (Such as classic R & B). If the success of that night is dwarfed by the other nights, then going back to the original line up would be fine. Same goes for Trance and Dub step, though they are very different sounds they could be easily thrown in together and enjoyed by the same audience.
And make Saturday a possible user request day. Possible being if your up to doing a six day podcast set up. If not, no worries.
Well, I don't plan on every week having the same line-up, where some days I might just do a generic "metal" day or a "electronic" day I'd like to keep some genres separated because I know that I don't like some subcategories of music as much as I completely adore others. Or maybe I'll do one genre on every day of the week but each week I'll do a different sub-genre. So every Tuesday is "metal" but one Tuesday I do classic metal and the next I do death metal.
I'm still just musing and coming up with ideas. And I'd definitely have request day on Saturday, maybe Sundays I'll do a music history lesson deal (if anyone's ever heard "The Ongoing History of New Music?" At least I think that's what it's called but I always really enjoyed listening so with a bit of research I could try producing something like that myself. <3 So many ideas that could be so much fun!
You do realize there is more than just metal and electronic, right?
Just getting that out there. ;)
(I'm an alt & indie music guy myself)
Those are just the examples we got stuck on. XD My personal favourites are industrial and trance. <3
Well I have a few for you

Celi has a few. XD
Hey Fen, I'm having trouble getting Vent to broadcast my outgoing (What I'm hearing, I.E. Music) instead of my incoming (What I input, I.E. My microphone). I know how I did it before but it doesn't work anymore. Tips?
I would check your settings to see that they are all in order. I'm not too brilliant when it comes to vent, but make sure your input is working through what mic set up you have. As well as setting it up so that your music input is being registered by vent. Probably should work with someone else on vent at the time to work with them. I'll be on later to help if you need it.
And have a few more!
