Fur tails

(Note: I'm not posting this for a debate. If you have something against the fur trade, your welcome to start a new discussion. I'm not posting this for a message box full of hate mail. I have nothing against people trying to make a living when they don't have many options available. Plus, these people only kill animals bred for their fur and use all of the animal for different purposes. If there is a big problem with this, then I will remove this topic without hesitation and never bring it up again. That said...)

I live in Beijing and have recently stumbled upon a great resource of furs. There are a number of traders that deal with the furs of wolves and foxes which are bred for their fur and would not exist in the environments they do otherwise. All their fur is used for a myriad of things all over the world. What they don't sell a lot of though, are tails.

I can get a pretty good deal on the tails and they come in many colors and designs. Fox tails come in blue, green, orange and are about a foot long while wolf tails are larger and come in more patterns and colors such as various stripe patterns and the like.

I'm not buying them yet, I'm just seeing who would be interested if anyone. What the opinion is etc. I wore one as part of my Halloween costume and got tons of favorable attention. (Lots of people taking pictures of my butt, it was kinda flattering.)

Anyway, let me know what you think. This is not a debate, just a simple, "I think a lot of people would be interested in buying inexpensive fur," or "I don't think that's such a good idea."

They'd likely cost around $15-$25 a piece. I still gotta figure out shipping. I can post pics later if the interest is there and again, these tails are pretty much undesired by the Chinese manufacturers. Buying them supports the fur trade here as much as buying chicken feathers supports KFC.

Too bad, I'd have more use of the hides with fur intact than the tails.  If you can get your paws on some of that I might be interested (depending on the price of course).

They do have those as well, though they are a bit more expensive. A white large fox fur goes for around $150 I think. Again, the tails just aren't as valuable to them. The full furs are still very nice and wonderfully tanned. I can get a better idea of the price when I go back, provided there is enough interest.

Cheeky Stoat

$150 is a bit out of my price range unfortunately.

I'll double check on the price again. I might be able to get a better discount, but $150 was what I figured in for a pure white giant fox fur plus shipping to the states.

I'll go and get pictures next week anyway and perhaps some more prices on other items as well.

Cheeky Stoat

Well, the fur doesn't need to be particularly unique or rare, even scraps would be great.  Cheap is all I can afford right now.

If you're on Livejournal at all it might be worth asking around on one or two communities.

Fur, hide and bone or possibly Fursuit Auctions as they sometimes have real fur items up for sale or people looking to purchase.  Fur, hide and bone would be a good bet to start with though.  They can also give advice on where to look about laws regarding the shipping of real animal parts nationally and internationally, as customs can be very funny about such things at times.

Nester Delgado

Hey thanks Maralah! I'll be sure to check that out. Maybe I can find a few more people that are interested in buying and if not, at least I can gather up some insight.

Do they carry things.. that arnt Fox or Wolf? Perhaps Ermine tails? Mink tails? Im a bit interested in a fox tail.. though, I'd want one that's.. not dyed a random colour..

Nester Delgado

Yes actually. I've seen full minks there though I'm not sure if they have ermine. The wolf tails are typically untreated, but the smaller fox tails are. I figure they simply have less success in selling the fox ones without adding a little something to them.

However, I will be going back there again, probably this week, to really get a full idea of what I can get, how much, and pictures is they'll let me to post here and on some other sites. Of course I still need to look into legal matters regarding this, but if worse comes to worse I can always simply take a few back in my suitcase reserved for people on here.

Pilot

Oohh. Im interested in a Mink. If you could get a price.  And if they let you, pictures. Do want to see. ^^

Cheeky Stoat

I am still interested in almost any cheap fur, but cheap is the name of my game.

Sadly due to terrible weather, (It's way to friggin' cold to trek over and the whole thing is outdoors) I won't be able to really get more on this for at least a month or so. I am serious about doing this, though I might not be able to buy much right now anyway. I'll keep you all posted.
