Well this has been a long thought out idea of mine. But its been on the back burner because I haven't thought of a solid way to present it. So I was hoping to put it up here and see if anyone might be interested in it.

The idea.

Another world, magical based with a mix of both Steam punk and Gothic (the term, not the people) architecture and life style being the setting. The people on the world would have a sort of deep understanding about the afterlife, in such a way that it isn't just driven by faith. It is a daily reminder. But it is taken to a lighter side, less dreary and dark as the world around them would suggest. The species of this land, over the hundred of thousands of years, has somewhat melded together into a sort of generic breed of animal. With a few differing characteristics. The most common being that one could have a feline, or canine like tail. They bare a striking resemblance to canines at first. The lack of a canine nose, and larger ears would suggest some other species. Perhaps fox. These differing characteristics vary from one continent on the world to another.

There are a few major social groups that make up this society.

One distinction is that one group is living. The other not living.

The living: They are as the name suggests, living. This is the middle ground between the higher and lower sects. And a subtle respect is given by all sects to the living by most of the ones that have passed. On any continent on the world the living are present. They are in many branches of the government, both on large and small scale.

The passed: This is a generic term for anyone that has died, or 'passed on' as it would be. Though it is more often used as a praise to the more respected dead then the other non-respected individuals that have died. This includes everyone from the lowly Ghost to the most revered Lich.
Example: "I talked to the constable about the break-in, he says a passed one watched what happened and will be a witness at the stand."

Faint ones: These are the ghosts of the world. Many people pass into this class when they die. Though it does draw more respect from the living, little more is given by the other higher classed un-dead. These are usually more prominent in the slums of the world. Depending on the person that the spirit came from, they may be residing in a home or set out to wander the world. Whether by choice or design.

Husks: Referred as this because usually the soul is either left the body, or has been trapped within a dead person. Putting it simply they are Thralls. The former used to call it because the body is put to work because the living individual worked hard during his or her lifetime within the world and was known for it. The body being used to continue the work that the individual was doing. They are usually rendered into faint ones and pampered within the living quarters of the home for a number of years. The bodies are usually cared for with embalming and protective rituals that keep it from breaking own while it is worked. These thralls have no mind or free will, and will do as there master is told.

The later mentioned above are one's that have committed crimes, and are being punished in the afterlife by being bound to the mindless body that they were apart of while they were living. This being only the second most cruel punishment that can be delivered upon an individual. The degree of the punishment being how closely they are bound to the undead body. The smallest degree being that they are simply held to wandering a very short distance from it as a ghost, to being held inside of the body and having the spirit connected into the nervous system. This type of worker is usually unkempt in the worst possible way. And worked in the more dangerous places of the world. Though often called a husk, they have been given a more serious derogatory term of Zombie or walking Dead.

The Enduring ones: Its usually given to the select that have achieved something great and good in life which has furthered the world or made it peaceful. It is in hopes that the one idea that this one individual came up with won't be the last if given more life to continue it. These are almost always in the form of a Lich. Judges, Politicians, and even the highest circle of power where most of the governing decisions are run through are filled if not solely populated by Liches. They are considered the highest and most respected individuals of the world, and number in just over a thousand.

Apart from what I have up there, the history is somewhat written down and I was wondering who would be interested in it.
