How many times have you 'Ret-Conned' your character's backstory?

Ret-con, or 'Retroactive continuity,' is changing the past to facilitate the present or future events. See endless reboots of comic book characters in movies like Spiderman and The Hulk.
I must say, there is not nearly enough nudity in life.

Mikkaddo

honestly about 4 from the start . . . as I became more familiar with writing and RP and high fantasy in general I changed some things to make my character who I wanted him to be.
Oops all salt!

I've retconned Kris once overall.  Originally she was a male character.  I've never retconned thala or Alaric.

Bryce: Once, maybe, details are vague. Been a long time since the Furcadia days.

Cindy: Definitely once. Another player wasn't  making adequate time for RP, that I thought in my younger years.

Latten: None, so far. She hardly has any backstory as it is, but she does have one! (And a kid, but enough about that)

Simplified

I've retconned my main characters more times than I can count.  Jacob Marshall was a opossum at one point before I made him a rat.  Jimmy Lee Darrell had a completely different name.  I had a chinchilla character planned who I never even made.  I sometimes stick characters I never get to use in one story into others because, why the hell not?  But the biggest change I can pinpoint is in my most recent rewriting of Jacob Marshall: Simple Beginnings where he is now openly bi, when before, Jacob has always been my one straight character.
When most people see a cartoon, they just think, "Aw cute!"

When furries see a cartoon, their first thoughts are "I bet I could do one better."

Ferret

Once.  The history kinda wrote itself out as I continuedo to rp on yiffchat
Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light?

Arashi_kuriyami

Not once, I figured all his mistakes and failures develop the character into who he is.
I wanted to make Arashi more of a character that people can feel is genuine.
With so many mistakes and failures as well as good things in his story, It made a good character that was well balanced.
We Are what we are taught. Who are you to judge one such as I?

Yuko-18-m

Micah Weil

*counts* Hey, Micah, what came before you?

Micah: "The wolf."

Right...might need an abacus for this.
The one, the original, the raccoon.
At your service.

LaffinFox

I've made slight tweaks and changes to make the character fit in better with the setting of a given roleplay, but I think the biggest retcon I've done was that originally Laffin was supposed to be in the U.S. Coast guard/USCG reserve/or USCG Auxilliary. I've since changed that to either "Jumping between dead end jobs" (retail mostly), or that Laffin spends his days managing an online science journal of ill repute (which in his canon later evolves into scientific corporation "LaffinTech", from which the many many LAffinClones come), and by night is a classy Gigolo/Escort who gets paid to party at various clubs and essentially just be good looking and attract more customers. Later parts of canon have his clones at various clubs (which is how I explain Laffin being on different RP sites), while other Laffins do scientific research, and even work as private military contractors.
