Keep this serious please, no snide racist/sexist remarks please.

So I have this friend named Justin who says he loves everyone in the whole world (even those he hasn't even met yet).

My response to him is that it isn't love anymore because he's made the word meaningless.

What do you think?

Justin sounds kinda like a hippie to me. Just sayin', no harm intended.

As for me, love can be either intensely meaningful or laughably hollow...The latter being akin to the word "communist."

He is a hippie.  XD  Nothing against hippies, and I mostly brought this up in the hopes of sparking discussion here on the board.

What do you mean by throwing "communism" in here?  I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Simply that the word has become laughably hollow since the end of the Cold War. Nothing more.

Ah, yeah...I know what you mean.  My partner and I made up a word for what we feel is "love" because we felt that the word "love" lost its meaning awhile ago because of its overuse.

People seem to confusing "like" or "tolerate" with "love." Love is built. It is not just felt. It is the feeling and the actions that coincide with it that make it built to become "Love." "Love at first sight" and "Free love" does not exist. That is infatuation at most.

Cheeky Stoat

I agree completely, Mito.

Nellie O.

As a Christian, I have a slightly different view on love.

I grew up under the assumption that love has innumerable forms.  Familial love, parental love, sexual love, friendly love, Christian love, the love of God.  Love has a form and a place to fit every person, every situation, and it is a conscious decision made.  Love is something that requires knowledge of a person, and also a decision to love that person.  As a Christian, I believe I am called to love every person I meet, in some way or another, but not necessarily as sexual love or marital love.  Just love.

Love is always unconditional.  By this definition, you can love every/anybody, because no matter who or what they are, they are deserving.  However, I don't feel that you can love somebody you've never met, as you have no way to make that decision.  For example, there are millions of people living right now in India.  I know not one of them.  Do I think they are deserving of my love?  Absolutely.  But I don't love them, because I've never been put in a position to do so.

Anyway, that's just my thought.  Half-baked and all.
Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from?  Do you think they just happen?  Think again.  They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep within yourselves.

Box

As a quoll. I have a very different view on love as for I'm always looking up to people

Bellatrix

Lol box.

Also. As a human, I find it hard to hate people I havent met and the same as hard to love. I saaay, if they say they love everyone then they do because you obviously cant hate some one that you have never met or dont know. So love is the only viable, default option until you meet a person you dont like, I would assume.
